The creation of this blog is two main reasons. Firstly, to keep my writing warm for graduate school. This semester I'm not writing papers as frequently so I find it's good practice to write (even on the most fruitless topics) in order to stay sharp in conveying a written idea to a larger audience....or in this case perhaps a non existent audience.
Secondly, I created this blog to hopefully purge the deepest recesses of my brain that are filled with "trivial" facts that no one should ever need to know. My mind mostly revolves around movie and television so therefore much of my daily dialog involves a spattering of quotes regurgitated from a movie I might have seen once five years ago. Is it always topical to the particular conversation? No. However, it is the curse that I evidently have. That's why I've named the blog "Trivial Pursuits." This is not a review blog for board games but rather a place that I can discuss some random Americana cultural events including movies, television, music, sports, or any current events that I might find interesting.
Such as all social media, this blog is ultimately self-serving. Let's face it, 90% of Facebook users sign on to see if somebody has commented on their 'very insightful status which I'm sure people will find amusing because its different and special from any other status' (which I am in that percentage) and the other 10% might actually care about reconnecting with old school chums. So even if nobody reads or cares about this blog, I will continue to post because it makes me feel better about getting my internal madness out in the open rather than bottled up in my head taking up space.
Oh my goodness! As your mother, do I understand anything that you just said? Don't think so. However, know that I will check this from time to time to get in touch with your thoughts - that is a little scary!!!
ReplyDeleteNo need to fear, mother. I made this thing mainly for my first reason. Just to keep writing.
